Brentwood North Middle School 8th grader Nzinga Anderson was selected as a runner-up in Optimum Community's inaugural Black History Month Essay Contest.

Students from Merrimac Elementary School, created a project entitled, 'Read to Salute' which requires the children to read on their own, or be read to, in order to meet a school-wide goal of 157,000 minutes of reading while collecting items to send to soldiers overseas.

Student members of the Volunteer Club at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville made over 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the guests at the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead.

As participants in Optimum Community's Charity Champions, the Northport High School Art Club, alongside volunteers from the school district and local community, participated in an 'Empty Bowls' fundraising event.
