Book Fairies

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade at Manor Oaks Elementary in New Hyde Park, donated gently used books to The Book Fairies, a charity that collects and redistributes books to communities in need across Long Island and New York City. Student council members were in charge of sorting through all the books and boxing them up. Over 20 boxes of books and 100 handmade, beautiful paper bookmarks were donated to schools and organizations across Long Island. When asked about the experience student Shafee shared, “I want everyone to have a fair education and to have the same materials in school.” Arianna added, “We collected books so they can learn like us too.” Arya and Ashley exclaimed, “We were happy sharing the joy of books with other kids.” Valerie and Ava, echoing their fellow students’ comments said, “I felt good that we are giving books to kids who do not have books.”
