Battle For A Cause
Recently, students at
Carle Place High School, held their annual Battle of the Classes, Battling for a Cause, in which the students compete in sporting activities to raise money in support of a charity. This year, their efforts raised $19,000 benefitting Tuesday’s Children, an organization that provides services for the children of 9/11 and other terrorist events victims, first responders, and military personnel. As participants in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions, which supports students’ charitable activities and donates money to a high school-selected charity, students commit time and effort to raising money, competing against other schools, and contributing the funds raised. When asked about the experience, student Thomas Vestuto shared, “It’s a lot more than just fun and games. We don’t do this for the recognition but to get that recognition is just such an honor. ” Sophia Urrutia added, “You see the families here from our town that have been impacted by 911...it was meant for us to do this.”
