Supporting Our Troops

Students at Santapogue Elementary School in West Babylon recently showed their support for our troops serving overseas in a special way. The entire student body, under the leadership of the Student Council, created care packages filled with much-needed supplies for the soldiers. "I believe all soldiers deserve something to show that we are grateful for what they do,” said Linda, a student involved in the project.

The students not only collected an assortment of food and toiletries but included homemade cards, letters and pictures to the seven overflowing packages for the troops to enjoy. As they decorated the care packages, student council members shared their thoughts and feelings. Christina said, β€œI love helping to help soldiers so they feel more at home." Jason exclaimed, "It was fun that day packing the food and shampoos for all the soldiers." With the hope that the soldiers can enjoy some homemade cheer before the December holidays arrive, the care packages were mailed off with a lot of love before Thanksgiving. Their teacher Susan Soldano helped sum up the experience by noting, β€œIn this day and age, it is important that we teach our children to appreciate our soldiers and to let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifices."
