NY Knicks Basketball Clinic
Optimum Community Encourages JHS 118 Student Reporters at NY Knicks Youth Basketball Clinic
Optimum Community partnered with the NY Knicks to bring a basketball clinic to students at JHS 118. NY Knicks legend John Wallace was on hand along with State Assemblyman Victor Pichardo, both of whom joined the students on court. One fifth-grader received a lesson in broadcast journalism with an opportunity to conduct interviews with both special guests.
At the clinics, the kids engage in healthy lifestyle group discussions led by Knicks staff before flexing their muscles with basketball themed activities and games. The emphasis at these clinic events is on hard work, good sportsmanship, self-esteem, and proper nutrition.
There is also a focus on empowering children to be the best they can be while dealing with adversity, as well as the importance of education and staying in school as it pertains to their own personal growth and development.
