Science Park High School Student Named Winner of Nat Geo Explorer Contest

Optimum Community, in partnership with Nat Geo, hosted an award event for the Nat Geo Mundo Explorer Scholarship winner, Katherine Mendoza, at Science Park High School in Newark. Ms. Mendoza was chosen among all the applicants in Newark as the winner of a full scholarship to travel abroad this summer. Senators Teresa Ruiz and Ron Rice attended the event and expressed their pride and honor in her accomplishment. Ms. Mendoza read the winning essay in front of 200 of her peers and was then presented with her “passport” to Italy and Greece.
