Elsyian Charter School Students Recognized in C-Span’s StudentCam Competition

Cablevision and C-SPAN were joined by Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer at the Elysian Charter School to recognize C-SPAN's StudentCam Competition honorable mention winners. Seventh-grade students Alex Grossbard and Brecon Hession Vasireddy from Elysian Charter School were recognized by Cablevision’s Power to Learn, C-SPAN and Mayor Dawn Zimmer as winners in the C-SPAN StudentCam video contest. StudentCam is C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and nation. Students were asked to create a short (5-7 minute) video on a topic related to the competition theme, “A Message to Congress: What is the Most Important Issue the U.S. Congress Should Consider In 2014?” Mayor Zimmer congratulated the students and spoke about how important it is for young people to be knowledgeable about government affairs. About 60 students, staff and parents attended the presentation and viewed the students’ winning documentary. Both students were awarded $250 for their video, “Should There Be Limits on How Much Money Super Pacs Can Spend on Campaigns?,” which won an Honorable Mention.

“Both Alex Grossbard and Brecon Hession did a terrific job and I congratulate them for their efforts and creativity,” said Mayor Zimmer. “Their winning entry tackled an important topic in a perceptive and interesting way. I also applaud C-SPAN and Cablevision for making this contest available to our students.”
