C-Span’s StudentCam Competition Winners at Woodcliff Middle School
Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi joined Cablevision and C-SPAN at Woodcliff Middle School to recognize eighth-grade students Amulya Balakrishnan and Harika Vasireddy as winners in the StudentCam video contest. StudentCam is C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and nation. Students were asked to create a short (5-7 minute) video on a topic related to the competition theme, “A Message to Congress: What is the Most Important Issue the U.S. Congress Should Consider In 2014?” Over 200 students, staff and parents attended the event where the winning video, “Why Our Food Quality Matters” was shown. Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi spoke about the importance of students being knowledgeable about current government issues. The winning students received $250 for winning an honorable mention in the contest.
“Congratulations to Amulya Balakrishnan and Harika Vasireddy for a job well done,” said Assemblywoman Schepisi. “By being involved in programs such as this, young people can affect change in their government on key issues that are vital to all of us. I would also like to thank C-SPAN and Cablevision for making this contest available to our students.”
