Hispanic Heritage Month Essay 3rd Place Winner Awarded Prize At Merrick Avenue Middle School

Merrick Avenue Middle School eighth grader Jessica Zhang was announced as the 3rd place winner in Optimum Community and Olympusat’s 8th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest. Jessica’s essay was chosen from more than 400 essays in the middle school category. Students throughout the tristate area were invited to submit an essay of 500 words or less and to name a Latino, past or present, with whom they would choose to spend a day and explain why.

Jessica’s essay was about pop sensation Shakira. Jessica’s dad was present for the prize presentation as were members of her school’s administration.
