Bellport High School Students Receive Charity Champions Donation For HELP Suffolk
Optimum Community was joined by Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio, school officials and representatives from Help Suffolk charity to present a check to more than 50 Bellport High School students who participated in a “Stay-Awake-A-Thon” to raise funds for the charity. The students are participating in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions program which rewards their efforts with a donation to the charity of their choice. Bellport High School will also compete this spring for the Charity Champions grand prize of a $5,000 donation to HELP Suffolk.
HELP Suffolk is a transitional housing facility for homeless families, the largest facility for the homeless on Long Island. The complex sits on seven acres of property and consists of four residential buildings, a community building, two playgrounds and a baseball field.
Since its inception in 1990, HELP Suffolk has served over 4,000 families and has placed nearly 60 percent of families into permanent housing.
