Northport High School Students Support Local Food Pantry

Art Club students at Northport High School hosted a soup dinner fundraiser as part of their charity work participating in this year’s Charity Champions program. Optimum Community and Legislator William Spencer recognized the students for their hard work raising money and awareness for the Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry of Northport/East Northport, a local charity group that serves families in need by providing food and other support. The students were presented with $500 to further their fundraising efforts, and ELC Food Pantry Chairperson Donna Galluccio accepted the $1000 donation on behalf of the charity. Legislator Spencer thanked the students for their commitment and presented the school with a proclamation for their efforts. The check presentation event was followed by Northport High School’s annual soup dinner fundraiser where guests were invited to enjoy a light dinner of soup, salad and bread. The soup is served in student-crafted bowls in exchange for a donation, with all proceeds going to the Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry of Northport-East Northport.

“Quite often we forget that there are people in need right here in our own community,” said Legislator Spencer. “Thanks to the efforts of these motivated students participating in the Charity Champions program and charitable organizations like the Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry of Northport-East Northport, many families in our area receive much-needed aid and support. I applaud Optimum Community for this program that benefits so many.”
