Meet the Leaders Features Smithtown's 350th Anniversary

In recognition of Smithtown’s 350th anniversary, Cablevision hosted a special edition of Meet the Leaders at the Smithtown Senior Citizens Department. The taping featured Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and Town Historian Bradley Harris, and focused on celebrating the rich history of the town. Over 75 patrons and staff of the senior center participated in the event, and members of the audience had the opportunity ask questions about the history of Smithtown. Town Supervisor Vecchio is the longest serving town supervisor in New York State and has served as Smithtown’s Town Supervisor for 10 percent of its history, and Town Historian Harris has been documenting the town’s history for about 35 years.

“First, I would like to say that I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to serve the residents of this fine community for so many years,” said Town Supervisor Vecchio. “The first settlers here could never have envisioned how dramatically and wonderfully the community would grow and develop over time. Smithtown does indeed have a colorful history and I thank Cablevision for featuring our town on its popular TV show Meet the Leaders and for sharing our story with its viewers.”
