"No Place on Earth" screening

Holocaust Remembrance Day at North Shore Jewish Center

In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Optimum and HISTORY partnered to present a screening of the documentary film No Place On Earth to over 250 congregants and special guests of the North Shore Jewish Center. The film unearths the gripping story of 38 Ukrainian Jews who evaded Nazi capture by living in near total darkness in an underground cave for nearly two years. Congressman Bishop, History's Dr. Kim Gilmore, No Place On Earth producer, Susan Barnett, A&E Network's Jim Babchak, Rabbi Aaron Benson and special congregants participated in the event which included a memorial service and Q&A session about the film. Optimum presented a $2,018 contribution to the North Shore Jewish Center to support programs of tolerance and acceptance, and HISTORY donated two copies of the film to the North Shore Jewish Center Library.

“While we cannot take away the pain of those terribly dark days in history, we can continue to pay tribute to individuals like those portrayed in this moving film,” said Congressman Bishop. “This courageous group of families, led by matriarch Esther Stermer, managed to survive thanks to their resilience and bravery. It is a true story of triumph against unbelievable odds. I would also like to thank Cablevision and HISTORY for making this event possible.”
