Charity Champions Glen Cove HS
Students at Glen Cove High School were recognized for participating in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions program during their 3rd Annual Holiday Feast to benefit North Shore Sheltering Program. The students chose to raise money for this local charity that provides temporary overnight shelter and food to those who are homeless and helps direct them to the proper agencies and facilities. New York State Assemblyman Charles Lavine attended the event and commended the students on their commitment and enthusiasm. Representing the charity was Steve Fortuna, Secretary of the Board of Directors, who spoke about NSSP and was presented with a $1000 donation. The school was also presented with a $500 check to further their fundraising efforts. After the check presentations, the Holiday Feast began, which was made up of food donations from local restaurants along with contributions from community members to help raise money for NSSP.
“I would like to congratulate all of the students involved for their hard work and dedication to those in need,” said Assemblyman Lavine. “Everyone should have a warm place to sleep and nutritious food to eat and thanks to the efforts of these motivated young people, the volunteers at North Shore Sheltering Program and Optimum Community, the homeless have a safe place to go, especially during these cold winter months. I thank Optimum Community for bringing its Charity Champions program to the young people in our area.”
