Charity Champions Connetquot HS

Student members of the Habitat for Humanity Club at Connetquot High School were recognized today by Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi for participating in this year’s Charity Champions. The students have been working to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk, an independently operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The event took place at a house that the students helped build in Mastic Beach. The house is an actual “student build”, which means that it was built by students from all of the participating Long Island schools. The Connetquot students decided to donate their $500 seed money from Cablevision directly to the charity. Habitat for Humanity representative Stephanie Busia spoke about the work of the organization and was then presented with a check for $1500.

“It’s exciting to see firsthand the wonderful work that these students are doing,” said Legislator Cilmi. “Their commitment and enthusiasm is clearly evident. What better gift to give a family than a home in which to live. I’d also like to thank Optimum Community for its Charity Champions program that has provided these young people with the opportunity to help others in need.”
