John Jay High School hosts Delete Cyberbullying Event

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro joined Optimum for a Delete Cyberbullying program at John Jay School in Hopewell Junction. Social Studies teacher Alyson Dodge discussed student involvement with the Internet Smarts program and introduced student members of the Peer Leaders Group who gave a series of presentations relating to cyberbullying. County Executive Molinaro then discussed the importance of Internet safety and possible repercussions of online bullying and participated in a Q&A with students. Afterwards, County Executive Molinaro signed a “Delete Cyberbullying” certificate and each of the student presenters signed a “Delete Cyberbullying” pledge. All attending students were also encouraged to sign the pledge.

“I congratulate each of the student presenters on a job well done,” said County Executive Molinaro. “Cyberbullying is a very real danger that can affect every young person, with sometimes devastating consequences. For this reason, it is vital that we provide them with the knowledge needed to safely navigate the web. I applaud Power to Learn for making itsInternet Smarts program available to our young people. I’m sure everyone here today came away with a better understanding of the importance of treating others with respect, both online and off.”
