Meet the Leaders at School / Black History Month

Meet the Leaders at School taping at Bridgeport Central HS

Optimum Community visited Bridgeport Central High School to host a taping of Meet the Leaders @ School. In recognition of Black History Month, the program focused on a variety of issues relating to African-American history, public service and leadership. Questions from students included topics such as gender equality, racism in Bridgeport, how one’s childhood affects political aspirations, legislation regarding diversity in the municipal and state police forces, and more. Participants on the panel included Senator Marilyn Moore, Representative Andre Baker and Bridgeport NAACP President George Mintz.

“Today’s discussion touched on so many meaningful issues and I commend all of the participating students for their perceptive questions on gender equality, racism and more on both the municipal and state level,” said Senator Moore. “I would also like to thank Cablevision for bringing this popular television show into the classroom and for recognizing the significance of Black History Month through dialogues like this.”

“It is indeed a privilege to be part of this dialogue with the bright, motivated young people here today thanks to Cablevision,” said Representative Baker. “They raise many questions that touch on important issues such as the war against hunger. Clearly these students are motivated and interested in making a difference for the better here in Bridgeport.”

“Each of the students here should be proud for it’s clear that you are committed to making the world a better place,” said Bridgeport NAACP President Mintz. “I would also like to thank Cablevision for including our next generation of leaders in the production of informative programs like ‘Meet the Leaders’.”
