Meet the Leaders at School
Connecticut High School Students Participate in Meet the Leaders at School Event
Students at Brien McMahon High School were visited by Senator Bob Duff and Mayor Harry Rilling for a taping of Meet the Leaders @ School. 10 students had the opportunity to ask the officials questions that covered a variety of topics including the effect of social media on political campaigns, everyday challenges facing an elected official, the relationship between the state senate and the local mayor, the reason(s) for pursuing a career in politics, and more.
“Congratulations to all the students who participated in today’s event,” said Senator Duff. “Programs such as this are invaluable as they make public service come alive for young people. Getting students interested in and enthused about how local government works will definitely provide us with better citizens in the future and leaders who are involved in their communities. I thank Cablevision for including our young people in informative programs like Meet the Leaders.”
“It was a pleasure interacting with the bright, motivated students here today,” said Mayor Rilling. “Their questions were interesting and very perceptive. Thank you to Cablevision and Meet the Leaders for creating this opportunity to help our young people gain a better understanding of the various subjects raised, including what a career in public service involves.”
