Amity Regional High School Holds Charity Champions Fundraising Event

Optimum Community held a Charity Champions check presentation at Amity Regional High School to recognize the Community Action Club’s volunteer work. Town of Woodbridge First Selectman Ellen Scalettar also attended the event and spoke to the students about the importance of community service. The school was presented with $1,000 to be donated to THP Project Purple Initiative, the students’ charity of choice. They also received $500 for the furtherance of their charitable efforts. The THP Project Purple Initiative is a national anti-substance abuse initiative of The Herren Project, launched to break the stigma of addiction and bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse. The presentation was held before the start of the student-planned March Madness for Project Purple fundraiser. Over 350 students purchased wristbands to enter the gymnasium to watch basketball competitions among teachers and other faculty members.

“The students here today are dedicated to raising money for THP Project Purple Initiative and I have no doubt that they will succeed in their efforts,” said First Selectman Scalettar. “This deserving charity brings hope for a better tomorrow and helps empower young people to make healthy choices in their teenage years that will last a lifetime. I thank Optimum Community for bringing Charity Champions to our area.”
