Watertown High School Students Participate in Charity Champions

Senator Rob Kane joined Power to Learn at John Trumbull Primary School in Oakville, CT to recognize Watertown High School students for their participation in this year's Charity Champions. C.A.R.E. program students have chosen to raise money for the Waterbury Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and have been fundraising since early in the school year. Senator Kane spoke to the students about the importance of volunteering and helping those in need and then joined Cablevision in presenting a $500 check to Watertown High School advisor Jenna Larkin and several of her students, as well as a $1000 check that the school accepted on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. Nearly 40 K-2 students and 22 Watertown High School students, as well as members of the board of education and district administration, were in attendance. After the presentation, the High School students read to the elementary school students in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

"I'd like to thank the students at Watertown High School for their dedication in helping raise funds for a charity that helps make dreams become reality for many families in need," said Senator Kane. "Habitat for Humanity has given families the opportunity to break out of the cycle of poverty and experience the satisfaction of home ownership. I also applaud Cablevision for making its Charity Champions program available to the young people in our area."
